Good Response to the 2002 Agricultural Census
There has been an excellent response to the 2002 Agricultural Census, with over 60,000 farmers and growers having already returned their questionnaires, according to Statistics New Zealand. Government Statistician Brian Pink thanked all farmers and growers for their cooperation: "It is eight years since an agricultural census has been conducted, and the response from the farming community reinforces the importance and need for this information."
Mr Pink urged farmers and growers that had not responded to the census to complete their questionnaires. Any farmers or growers who have not received a questionnaire, or require assistance in completing their forms, should contact Statistics New Zealand – phone toll free: 0800 333 104.
Questionnaire processing is now under way, and the first national agricultural estimates are scheduled for release in late February 2003. The results from the 2002 Agricultural Census will provide important statistics on the significant changes that have taken place in the rural sector in recent years.
