June Vehicle Registration Figures Released

June vehicle registration figures released by the Land Transport Safety Authority show a slight increase from June 2001, but a 4.5 percent decrease on May this year.
There were 20,621 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this June, compared with 20,289 in June 2001 and 21,588 in May this year.
First-time car registrations fell from 16,204 in June 2001 to 15,851 this June (16,641 in May). New car registrations were up 7.4 percent, from 5,356 in June 2001 to 5,754 this June (5,025 in May), while used import registrations fell 6.9 percent, from 10,848 in June 2001 to 10,097 this June (11,616 in May).
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Toyota with 20.9 percent, ahead of Holden with 17.3 percent and Ford with 15.2 percent. Holden continues to hold the overall market share lead for new cars registered in the year to date.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden VX Commodore, Ford Falcon and Toyota Corolla.
Truck registrations were up 29 percent, from 2,167 in June 2001 to 2,801 this June. Motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) were up from 224 to 231, while trailer registrations were unchanged at 1,238. Tractor registrations rose from 161 to 188, while bus registrations were up from 62 to 81.
