Transit New Zealand is carrying out works aimed at reducing traffic queues and delays at the intersection of Albany
Highway and Upper Harbour Drive. An additional lane is being constructed to provide two northbound lanes on Albany
Highway for traffic from Glenfield heading towards Greenhithe and Albany.
The work includes first excavating into the existing embankment along the western boundary of the Cuthill water
reservoir. As part of the work an 80m long and up to 6m high retaining wall is being built which will be set back 2.5m
from the new kerb line. This will allow for a future combined footpath and cycleway proposed by the North Shore City
Council. Thereafter the new lane will be constructed and islands within the intersection will be modified.
Contractors will be working to get the construction completed by August. This work will unfortunately result in further
possible delays. However, should there be unusually long delays any lanes closed for construction will be reopened.

While the changes to the intersection, when completed, will not entirely reduce queues and delays, they are expected to
bring some significant relief, particularly to north and westbound motorists. Proper relief will come once the proposed
Upper Harbour Motorway is completed.
