As of April 8 it is prohibited to bring into New Zealand cooked Breadfruit from any Pacific Island countries.
However, it is still possible to bring in fresh Breadfruit provided it has an appropriate phytosanitary certificate.
To get a phytosanitary certificate, the Breadfruit needs to be treated with 'High Temperature Forced Air' and be
contained in pest proof packaging.
Failure to make a correct declaration could result in an instant $200 fine. The maximum penalty for purposely making a
false declaration is a fine of $100,000 or imprisonment for up to five years.
