Canterbury District Health Board - Media Statement

Published: Tue 12 Feb 2002 01:46 PM
The Canterbury District Health Board is concerned about misleading statements featuring in some media about the future of Rangiora and Oxford Hospitals.
"There are no plans to close these hospitals. It is not our intention to in any way reduce the delivery of rural health services. In fact, the opposite is the case. We are focussed on how we can improve and expand the delivery of health services in the Board's rural areas," says Chief Executive of the Canterbury DHB Jean O'Callaghan. "Rural health is one of our top priorities."
"Claims that we may be planning to downgrade or close Rangiora and Oxford hospitals are rubbish. I want to reassure those living in the North Canterbury that the Canterbury DHB wishes to work with the community to ensure we enhance health services in their area, not reduce them."
