Vehicle Registrations Up Last Year

Vehicle registrations for the 2001 calendar year were up nearly six percent from 2000 according to statistics released today by the Land Transport Safety Authority.
The LTSA figures show that a total of 260,379 vehicle registrations were processed for the year to 31 December 2001, an increase of 5.9 percent from the 245,901 registrations recorded in 2000, but less than the 264,578 registrations in 1999.
Holden topped the market share for new car registrations in 2001 with 10,092 (17.3 percent of market share). Ford had the second most new registrations with 9,860 (16.9 percent), followed by Toyota with 9,568 (16.4 per cent).
The most popular new car registered last year was the Holden VX Commodore, with 6,185 registrations processed, followed by the Ford Falcon with 4,338 registrations and the Toyota Corolla with 3,495.
