The Land Transport Safety Authority (LTSA) is reminding road users that time is running out quickly for those wanting to
make a submission on possible changes to New Zealand’s traffic rules.
The official deadline for comment on the Road User Rule consultation paper is September 21. The paper can be viewed at
www.ltsa.govt.nz, and last minute submissions can be made via e-mail.
The consultation paper highlights six areas where the LTSA suggests a change in traffic law may be beneficial from a
safety perspective. These include the use of scooters and skateboards on footpaths and roads, rules for driving around
cycle lanes, giving way at pedestrian crossings, changing give way rules, traffic behaviour at roundabouts and extending
the time during which headlights must be operated.
Feedback from consultation will be incorporated into a public draft of the Road User Rule, scheduled for release next
year.
