Family Court Web Site Live Today

Published: Mon 3 Sep 2001 02:23 PM
A revamped Family Court of New Zealand internet web site providing better information about the court and its services went live today.
“Most people do not realise the wide range of services provided by the Family Court, from dealing with international child abduction to looking after the affairs of people unable to act for themselves due to illness or infirmity, says Department for Courts spokesperson Barry Ebert.
“The aim of this web site is to help people find out more about the Court and the services it offers, and to help them access those services more easily.
“Developed as part of the revamp of the Department for Court’s web site, the revamped Family Court web site provides - information about the Court’s procedures - summaries of relevant law - information for contacting the Department for Courts and addresses and contact numbers for all Family Courts throughout the country - links to a number of related Government sites and some New Zealand and overseas family law sites.
“The web site features a glossary which sets out the plain meaning of a number of technical terms which are used in the Courts and which people have told us they find difficult to understand.
“Like the Department’s web site itself, the Family Court web site is a ‘work in progress’ and will be improved and added to over time,” says Barry Ebert.
Copies of many of the forms needed to make or defend applications will be provided in the near future, but electronic filing of applications is some way off.
The site may be accessed at: www.courts.govt.nz/family
