IHC Welcomes Strategy

Published: Thu 3 May 2001 02:34 PM
IHC congratulates the Government on The New Zealand Disability Strategy, which was released last night.
“It is gratifying to see a Government commitment to the full inclusion of people with disabilities in our community,” Jan Dowland, IHC’s Chief Executive said today.
“We have been telling the Government that children are being excluded from schools, that people with intellectual disabilities should be out of institutions and living in the community, and that we need support to get people real jobs with real pay,” Ms Dowland added. “The strategy certainly supports our stance.”
Ms Dowland said IHC was looking forward to seeing the action plans that would ensure the strategy moves off the paper and into peoples’ lives.
“This is certainly a step in the right direction and we acknowledge the Government’s courage in telling us all what its vision for society is.”
