PHARMAC has announced the result of another successful tender of six chemicals that will bring annual savings of more
than three million dollars.
Announcing the tender decision, PHARMAC says that the drugs include treatments for asthma, cancer and heart conditions .
PHARMAC Medical Director Dr Peter Moodie says pharmaceutical companies have offered some very good savings in this
tender, including a 73 percent reduction in the price of an anti-fungal cream which will save taxpayers half a million
dollars a year.
The most savings from the tenders awarded in April will be through a drop of more than 70 percent on a treatment used
predominately for high blood pressure. This will reduce the cost of the drug by nearly two million dollars annually.
“Health dollars are very tight and it is a good result to see money being freed up to spend on improving health
outcomes,” says Dr Peter Moodie.
The savings gained from lower tender prices mean more health dollars available for health care, he says.
