Census 2001 - Call if form hasn't been collected: March 2001
Most of the 5.2 million forms distributed for the 2001 Census of Population and Dwellings have now been collected, says
Government Statistician Brian Pink.
"I would like to publicly thank everyone who participated and all of our enumerators who have gone to great lengths over
the past six weeks, travelling on foot, by boat and even on horseback, from Cape Reinga to the Bluff, to ensure everyone
is counted," Brian Pink says.
When census enumerators haven't been able to find people at home, they have left postage-paid envelopes, so people can
post in their forms.
Anyone who has not yet had their census forms collected and who has not been left a postage-paid envelope should ring
the free 2001 Census helpline on 0800 80 2001. Helpline staff will arrange for a supervisor to collect the forms, or
provide the caller with a freepost address for sending in their forms, or mail out a postage-paid envelope.
It is also not too late to fill in a census form. People just need to make sure they fill it in based on where they were
on Census Night, and then ring the helpline to have it collected.
The census relies on everyone in New Zealand participating and completing their forms accurately and fully, so that the
statistics produced provide an accurate snapshot of who we are as a nation in 2001.
"Everyone counts and our objective has been to count everyone," Mr Pink says.
