MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE WAREHOUSE
When you have a work culture that puts people first, a heartrending story is one that always makes you sit up and take
notice, no matter how stretched, stressed or busy you may be.
David Muaiki’s tearful face appeared on television last night, and for very good reason. The 13 year old is a cancer
sufferer, cared for and supported by his Mum, Mahelekafa Muaiki and his three brothers. The little family had been
looking forward to Christmas and they had proof that Santa was around this year, as they couldn’t miss the presents
lovingly stacked beneath their Christmas tree.
Unfortunately for the family, there were others who thought that they’d have a very merry Christmas this year at someone
else’s expense. Unscrupulous thieves broke into the home during the course of Thursday and stole everything, leaving a
sad and shaken family with nothing to look forward to this festive season.
There are many people who responded to this woeful tale, including the Manurewa Police who wasted no time in putting out
an appeal for assistance. Another Good Samaritan, Gary Gerritse, picked up the story off the Internet early this morning
and began raising funds, calling upon The Warehouse for a donation. There was no hesitation. Greg Muir, Chief Operating
Officer of The Warehouse, instantly responded with a $500 spending spree for the family at the new Airport Warehouse on
the corner of George Bolt Memorial and John Goulter Drive. “At Christmas time, more so than at any other time of the
year, it’s people that really matter”, says Muir, “We’re very happy to be able to bring this family some Christmas
cheer”.
The assisting Police will collect the family this afternoon and escort them to the Airport Warehouse store where they
will be greeted by Warehouse staff.
