Peter Lawless has been appointed the General Manger for the Department of Conservation’s Northern Region.
Mr Lawless, 45, currently DOC’s Area Manager for Golden Bay, takes up the new Hamilton-based role on February 26.
Director-General Hugh Logan said he was delighted to announce the appointment.
“Mr Lawless was selected from 27 high calibre applicants. He has a sound mix of strategic thinking abilities, and both management and operational experience.”
Mr Lawless has worked for DOC since 1987. Positions held include Internal Audit Manager, Nelson Marlborough Conservancy Protection Manager and national policy roles at Head Office. He has been the Golden Bay Area Manager since 1997. Peter has also worked for the Commission for the Environment, Ministry for the Environment and State Coal Mines.
Mr Lawless replaces previous Northern Regional Manager Grant Baker, who started in the Wellington-based role of Business Management General Manager in mid-October.
The position is part of DOC’s general management team. The Northern Region encompasses the Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Tongariro/Taupo DOC conservancy offices.
