Published: Tue 28 Nov 2000 10:39 AM
On November 29 another milestone for the Helpline is reached. It’s fifth year of working for the people of Aotearoa New Zealand!
Manager of ADA’s Alcohol Helpline Paul Traynor says, “we are excited by the development of this service and its growth over the past five years” “We are especially grateful to those volunteers and staff who work this service they are fantastic!” The Helpline operates from 10am to 10pm everyday providing information, advice, brief counselling and referral nation wide on alcohol and other drugs.
“Sadly, our success comes at a price says Paul, “we are seeing an increase in the difficulties our callers and their families, or friends are encountering with alcohol, in particular.” The positive thing is that there is help, someone to listen and a way to move forward all at no cost to the caller!
The growth over the past five years states there is a need for this service and Paul says, “the Government in its health changes needs to take seriously the effects of alcohol and other drugs on our communities.”
