MORE THAN HALF A MILLION DOLLARS RAISED FOR CHILDREN
Save the Children announces its Annual Appeal results
Save The Children’s Annual Appeal has raised more than $550,000 for children in New Zealand and overseas.
The results were announced today by The Right Honourable Sir Michael Hardie Boys, Governor–General of New Zealand at
Government House in Auckland. Save the Children’s Annual Appeal (3–9 October 2000) is one of New Zealand’s largest and
longest running neighbourhood appeals and involved thousands of volunteers across the country.
Sir Michael also picked the winner of a Quality Hotels and Resorts draw for those who donated more than $50 to the
Appeal. The winner is Florence Lindsey of Queenstown. Quality Hotels and Resorts – a sponsor of Save the Children – is
giving five free nights accommodation as a prize.
“This is an impressive achievement, we’re pleased to have exceeded last year’s total by seven per cent,” said Save the
Children President, Martyn Turner.
“We would like to thank volunteers, donors and our sponsor for their tremendous support, which will be directly
translated into help for vulnerable children.”
Save the Children’s unique promise is that ALL money donated during its Annual Appeal will go directly to projects which
helps the world’s most vulnerable children. No other New Zealand charity makes this promise.
Save the Children works to create a better world for children both overseas and in New Zealand. The Governor-General is
the patron of Save the Children New Zealand.
