Hon Roger McClay
Commissioner for Children
30 October 2000
"Thank you New Zealand for turning on such a marvellous first-ever Children's Day" said the Commissioner for Children Roger McClay today. He was commenting on the positive success of yesterday's inaugural Children's Day.
Mr. McClay today praised those Community Groups and organisations who had worked so hard to organise over 200 separate activities throughout New Zealand on Sunday.
He also praised those families who had made the effort to participate by taking part in the Children's Day events. "Sunday was a day to acknowledge our children. It was an opportunity to celebrate the joy they bring to our lives. I was privileged to be at the Carterton A & P Show and then at the Masterton family celebrations. I was delighted to see so many families enjoying the day."
"Children's Day has got off to a magnificent start. I am sure many children and their families will already be looking forward to Children's Day next year" he said.
