Senior Management Team At Expanded Ministry Complete
Mr Gordon Davies has been appointed to the position of Deputy Director-General Sector Funding and Performance in the Ministry of Health, effective from December 13.
"I am delighted to be able to welcome Gordon into the Ministry in this important role," Director-General Karen Poutasi said today.
"The Ministry is entering new territory as we prepare to take up some functions which previously resided with the Health Funding Authority. Having someone with Gordon's extensive background in and knowledge of the health and disability sector will be a tremendous asset in this area of our work," Dr Poutasi said.
Mr Davies is currently General Manager of the Sourthern Region of IHC, responsible for residential services to 560 people and some 1300 families who have service users and clients in residential and other settings.
Prior to taking up this role he had extensive experience in the health sector, most recently as acting General Manager of the Canterbury Area Health Board in 1992/93, following a period as Manager of Corporate Services for the board. Prior to employment with the board Mr Davies held a number of senior positions with the then-Department of Health, including responsibility for managing the introduction of contracts in the public health system. This followed several years as Chief Executive of the Waikato Hospital Board.
Mr Davies was also involved in steering and advisory groups on the 1993 health changes, has held a number of study awards, and written a number of papers on health systems and services in various journals.
"I am delighted that Gordon's experience and insight will again be available to this organisation," Dr Poutasi said. "I am sure that people working in non-governmental organisations will also be pleased that he brings that perspective into the Ministry."
Mr Davies' appointment completes the changes the Ministry has made to its senior management team as it restructures to reflect its expanded role.
