Psychiatric Community Rocked By Revelations
MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND
COLLEGE OF PSYCHIATRISTS
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists reacted with shock and sadness to reports that one of its members had been charged with murder.
“This news has come as a shock to all of us”, Dr Margaret Honeyman, Chair of the New Zealand Branch of the College said today.
Dr Honeyman said that the focus of the New Zealand psychiatric community turned immediately to those who will be directly affected by these reports.
“We are very concerned about the distress these revelations will cause for the family, patients, students and colleagues of the doctor concerned.”
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that all those affected by these revelations will receive the support and the care they need.”
The College will continue to monitor the situation closely as it develops.
The statement is released following the Annual General Meeting of the New Zealand Branch of the RANZCP held in Rotorua this afternoon.
