New Chief Executive Appointed to NSAD Care Ltd
NSAD Care Limited, a leading non-government provider of alcohol and drug treatment services has appointed Tim Harding,
to the position of Chief Executive.
Formerly Chief Executive of Queen Mary Hospital in Hanmer Springs, Mr Harding has had extensive management experience in
the health sector. He has held positions within NSAD Care Ltd as the Director of Programmes, Director of NSAD Marton,
Director of Aspell House and he also played a key role in establishing and directing a new Drug Treatment Unit at
Arohata Womens Prison.
NSAD Care Limited was incorporated as a charitable company on 1 January 2000, having purchased the principal assets and
liabilities of the National Society on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence New Zealand. The company was incorporated to take
over the functional operations formerly provided by the National Society on Alcohol and Drug Dependence New Zealand.
According to Mr Harding we need to be aware of the hidden cost of drug and alcohol abuse in the community and the
workplace.
“The financial cost alone of alcohol and drug abuse and alcohol and drug dependence is vast, not to mention the human
cost, and far outweighs the cost of treatment services.
“NSAD Care Ltd’s vision is to minimise the impact of substance abuse and dependence on the lives of New Zealanders. A
key aim for the organisation over the next few months will be the development of strong and on-going relationships with
each of New Zealand’s 22 newly established Health Boards.
“We will be seeking to further develop our nine community based clinics, their various services and our Drug Free
Workplace programmes. We will be looking to expand our therapeutic residential programmes over the next two to three
years including continuing the excellent results achieved in the Drug Free Units in two New Zealand prisons and our NSAD
Marton residential facility,” Mr Harding said.
NSAD Care Chairman, Mr Terence FitzGerald said, Mr Harding had a strong personal commitment to NSAD Care Ltd’s goal of
providing quality clinical treatment to those in need. The Board of Directors was pleased to have him return to the
organisation in his new role as Chief Executive.
Born and raised in Wellington, Mr Harding began his career working in Sales and Marketing for Bernina Sewing Machines
(NZ) Ltd. In 1986 he co-founded and managed New Zealand’s first pizza delivery company, Pizza To You Ltd where he worked
for four years. He then became an owner and Director of Brasserie Flipp Ltd from 1990 and still remains a shareholder of
the business. His career move into the alcohol and drug treatment field occurred in 1992.
“I see the work I have done for NSAD Care Ltd and more recently at Queen Mary Hospital, where I was involved in
establishing a youth programme, as more of a vocation than a profession. My aim is to use the business skills I have
established over the years to further the objectives of the organisation and to provide clinical treatment that is both
cost-effective and of a high clinical quality to New Zealanders,” Mr Harding said.
Mr Harding, whose personal interests include skiing, song writing and guitar playing, is currently completing a
Post-Graduate Certificate in Health Science at the Christchurch School of Medicine.
