SECOND UN EVACUATION MISSION COMPLETED
Today’s UN mission to evacuate its people from Atambua in West Timor has been successfully completed with the UN employees crossing the border into the Australian Defence Force controlled area of East Timor at about 8.00 PM NZ time tonight, September 7.
New Zealand’s peacekeepers from our Joint Force in East Timor were available to help but in the event neither the Air Force’s Iroquois helicopters nor the soldiers from the Army’s 2/1 Battalion at Suai were required and have been stood down.
