'YOUR CALL' - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VIDEO RELEASED
Men who have been violent can be responsible, accountable, and change their behaviour.
This is a key message in the video `Your Call' which is to be launched by Hon Matt Robson, the Minister of Courts next Monday.
This video outlines the rights and responsibilities of people who have been served with a Protection Order under the Domestic Violence Act. It uses a dramatised example interspersed with interviews with men who have had protection orders.
This is a useful resource for lawyers, counsellors and community workers who may have people coming to them for advice. Often the people - usually men - are confused, upset and angry when they are served with a protection order. This video shows how some men have taken this as a wake up call and made some real changes in their lives.
`Alongside every man served with a protection order is a woman and usually children who need protection from him' said Paul Prestidge, Executive Officer of the National Network of Stopping Violence Services. `The safety of these women and children is the major objective of our programmes for men, and of this video. This video shows that the men who make the decision, and are supported to change their behaviour also benefit.'
Some of the men who are interviewed on the video will be at the launch and will be available to talk to people present.
The video is produced by the Legal Resources Trust, and was funded by the Legal Services Board, the Department for Courts and NZ Police.
