Farmers Trading Company Limited Managing Director, Wayne Walden today confirmed the company has been working closely with the public health service to ensure tuberculosis protocols are being followed.
"Since being notified of a former staff member's death from tuberculosis, Farmers has closely followed public health service instructions. Reports that six employees have the disease are incorrect. Five team members have merely tested positive to having been in contact with tuberculosis and will be fully monitored to ensure they do not contract the disease.
"In addition, the public health service has assured the staff members affected they pose absolutely no risk to the public. The company is more than satisfied with this assurance. As is company policy, we have offered counselling to our Lambton Quay team following the death of their colleague and the subsequent health issues raised.
"Farmers Trading Company is extremely grateful for the swift response and high level of professionalism offered by the Hutt Valley Health team," Mr Walden said.
