EXTENSION ON VIEWS' DATE
St Albans' residents now have longer to give their views on the
neighbourhood plan being prepared by the Christchurch City Council.
Views on the plan, which aims to retain and build on the physical and social
character of the suburb, will close on Friday, 25 February. The Council has
said it recognises that the designation of land for the northern arterial
road through St Albans has had a negative impact on the area. As a result,
money has been allocated for physical improvement works. Projects such as
the improvement of parks and the use of alternative planning and roading
treatments to strengthen the identity of streets will be considered. The
plan aims to improve the appearance and character of St Albans by the
development of streets and open spaces, to improve traffic circulation and
safety, to improve pedestrian and landscape links, and to encourage good
building and site design for the location. Boundaries of the plan are Bealey
Avenue, Springfield Road, Hills Road and Warrington Street. Views can be
sent to the Christchurch City Council's urban design team of the
Environmental Policy and Planning Unit.
