Record Crowd Numbers at AMEX Cup Village
The Louis Vuitton final yesterday certainly gave American Express New Zealand Cup Village staff a taste of what is to
come, with the America’s Cup final now only two weeks away.
More than 52,000 people came through the AMEX Village on Sunday, and the total number of visitors for last week was just
over 221,000.
For the weekend alone 92,206 visitors passed through the Village.
This now means that AMEX Cup Village staff has had two major crowd days with the millennium night and the Louis Vuitton
final and both have passed without incident. Yesterdays drowning off a wharf happened outside the AMEX Cup Village.
The America’s Cup Defender Series commences on Saturday the 19th of February. Prior to that several key events will be
happening in and around the AMEX Cup Village.
The World Offshore Powerboat Championship teams are now on site and will have their first official practise tomorrow.
On Friday just after midday the Pounamu (greenstone) replica America’s Cup trophy arrives at Aotearoa House in the
Village Pavilion and will receive an official welcome.
Then on Sunday 13th February the Ulysses Motor Cycle Charity Ride will end on base 3 and they are rarising funds for the
WestpacTrust Rescue Helicopter.
PR Manager Sue Foley said, ”we are certainly delighted that the visitor numbers continue to increase and in turn we want
to thank the public for the excellent way they have conducted themselves so far.”
