Cervical Screening Inquiry Venue
"There appears to be some misunderstanding about the question of the venue for the Cervical Screening Inquiry. The matter needs to be clarified.
"The inquiry will commence in Auckland on 7 February 2000. However it has always been the intention of the Committee of Inquiry that it would travel to Gisborne to hear evidence there to the extent that is required to do so in order to meet the terms of reference that it has been given.
"The committee has given the Minister of Health its assurance that there will be hearings in Gisborne to take relevant evidence from women affected. In the meantime the Committee Chairperson Ms Ailsa Duffy QC will meet with the Minister of Health as soon as possible to discuss a number of issues including the Terms of Reference and how these relate to the women affected."
