TVNZ EMPHATIC IT WILL FIGHT
TVNZ is filing an appeal with the High Court in Auckland to overturn an arbitration finding over its dispute with former newsreader John Hawkesby.
Hawkesby left TV ONE a year ago after just 24 days of reading the news.
TVNZ Chief Executive Rick Ellis confirmed today that the board of TVNZ is emphatic that TVNZ will fight the arbitration finding through the Appeal to the High Court.
We have received expert legal advice and we are advised that we have grounds for appeal, he said.
“We believe the Arbitrator’s decision has serious flaws in it. We have filed an appeal and we also want the confidentiality lifted.
“We do not want this to be secret. We would like the public to know the background and our point of view,” he said.
