Every year the Speight's Coast to Coast attracts an increasing number of competitors keen to tackle the internationally
renowned and challenging multi-sport event that crosses the South Island.
From humble beginnings in 1983, when 79 competitors joined the starting line-up, the millennium event will see 875
athletes from throughout New Zealand and overseas racing against each other. There will be 50 international
representatives competing.
The Speight's Coast to Coast is a 238km race starting at Kumara Beach on the West Coast, crossing the Southern Alps and
finishing at Christchurch’s Sumner Beach. It comprises six demanding legs: a 2.8km run, 58km cycle, 26km mountain run,
15km cycle, 67km kayak and finishes with a 70km cycle.
Teams or individuals can compete over two days, or attempt the “Longest Day” one-day event on Saturday, February 5.
Competitors include ironman winners, triathletes, and professional multi-sport competitors alongside first-time
Speight's Coast to Coast entrants.
The prizegiving will be held at the Christchurch Town Hall on Sunday, February 6 at midday.
