New Zealand Christmas Card Recycling Campaign Gets Underway!
* Planet Ark launches its annual N.Z. greeting card recycling push on January 6th *
SYDNEY, Australia, 5th Jan./MediaNet International-AsiaNet/ -- JANUARY 6th is the TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS - the day
when we are traditionally supposed to take down our Christmas cards and decorations.
To mark the day, the international environment group PLANET ARK is launching its second annual greeting card recycling
campaign at every New Zealand outlet of THE BODY SHOP.
Together with The Body Shop, we aim to recycle many of the millions of Christmas cards and envelopes that New
Zealanders sent each other this Christmas. We also want people to give us their old birthday cards and other greeting
cards too.
This year's campaign is being fronted by tennis ace MARK PHILIPPOUSSIS and Planet Ark Founder, PAT CASH.
"From now UNTIL THE END OF FEBRUARY, people can take their unwanted birthday cards, Christmas cards and other greeting
cards to The Body Shop ANYWHERE IN NEW ZEALAND" says Cash.
This is the second time that the campaign has been run in New Zealand. Last year's trial campaign had a big response
with one hundred thousand cards being dropped off for recycling.
"Recycling greeting cards is a really positive way to save trees" says Cash. "If you've got cards locked away in a
cupboard or sitting in an old shoebox , then please do the right thing and place them in a Planet Ark recycling bin at
The Body Shop."
CARDS 4 PLANET ARK started in Australia, where it's Australia's most supported environmental campaign. Millions of
Australians have got involved in the campaign - last year, over 100 MILLION GREETING CARDS were recycled in Australia
alone.
This is Planet Ark's second recycling campaign in New Zealand this year.
In September, we started our national Steel Can Recycling Campaign to encourage New Zealanders to recycle their baked
bean cans, dog food tins and empty aerosol cans. ENDS....
