The paper delivered today by the Representatives of Tibet at the first Children's World Parliament being held in Wellington during the International Millennium Festival of the Children this week was met with thunderous applause from other children delegat
The Tibetan representatives, Karma Tsering Norbu Karthung aged 13 yrs and Tara Devi Karthung aged 11 yrs, were born in the Tibetan refugee camp of Manpat in India. They have been living in New Zealand since 1990 at Karma Choeling Buddhist Monastery locate
Karma and Tara also called for better living conditions for Tibetan Children, including; clean water, an education in the Tibetan language and culture, freedom to say what they want, better school facilities, and to be able to practice their own religion
Karma and Tara also mentioned in their paper that Tibetan Children have a right to the environment being better protected for them for the future and requested the government of China to stop chopping down the trees, and to stop dumping nuclear waste in T
They concluded their address with "We wish happiness, harmony and prosperity for all children everywhere around the world".
