Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) held a flag raising on Tuesday 29 May to commemorate the Republic Day of Nepal. Held at the flag pole opposite the SIT Café from 8.30am – 9am, SIT Chief Executive Penny Simmonds, His Worship Invercargill City Mayor Tim Shadbolt, SIT staff and students, especially SIT’s Nepalese students, attended out of respect for the occasion.
Held annually on 29 May, it is a special day in the history of Nepal that commemorates the beginning of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal on 29 May, 2008. This abolished 240 years of monarchy.
After the flag raising, tea, coffee and morning tea were served in the SIT café.
