Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) will hold a flag raising to commemorate Chinese National Day. Held at the SIT flag pole opposite the SIT Café from 8.30am – 9am on Monday 2 October, staff, students and anyone interested is welcome to attend. SIT Chief Executive Penny Simmonds will be in attendance out of respect to the Chinese students studying at SIT.
Tea and coffee will be served at the SIT Café after the flag raising. Chinese National Day is celebrated throughout mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau with a variety of government-organised festivities including fireworks and concerts.
SIT will also be hosting a Chinese Moon Cake Festival in Hansen Hall on Campus (133 Tay Street, Invercargill) on Tuesday 3 October. Doors open at 6pm, and the festivities will begin at 6.30pm, running until 9.30pm. This mid-autumn festival is to celebrate Chinese National Day and is family friendly, including Chinese music, dancing and food.
Tickets are essential as seating is limited, RSVP’s can be made to SIT’s International Reception.
