Indian Independence Day
Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) will be celebrating Indian Independence Day with a flag raising ceremony followed by tea and coffee in the SIT Café. The flag raising will begin at 8.30am and will be attended by Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt, SIT Chief Executive Penny Simmonds and Indian representatives from SIT staff and students. Anyone is welcome to attend, this event will take place on 15 August at the SIT flagpole opposite the SIT Café.
Indian Independence Day is a national holiday in India, celebrated annually to commemorate the country’s independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947. It is customary for the Indian Prime Minister to raise the Indian flag and give an address to the nation on this day. Throughout India, flag hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events take place. SIT values the Indian students we have studying with us and would like to celebrate their national day.
