New Year Starts with New Management Team for WelTec and Whitireia
Chief Executive Chris Gosling today announced the appointment of a new leadership team for Whitireia and WelTec.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of a new team of Directors to lead our two very successful tertiary
education institutions. The appointees are a team of talented individuals who collectively have a wealth of experience
and expertise and will add value to professional and vocational training in the region. They are highly regarded in the
education sector and have extensive networks across government and industry,” says Chris Gosling.
“Four of the Directors will span both WelTec and Whitireia and four positions will be dedicated to their respective
institution. The establishment of a new team and new structure is another significant milestone for the Students First
Partnership between Whitireia and WelTec.
“The new team reflects my desire to advance the Students First partnership between our organisations providing more
choice for students in the Wellington region and training people with the skills and attributes that employers require.
“It’s an exciting time to work in tertiary education as the Wellington economy is growing with major infrastructure
projects underway and more on the horizon. Wellington needs skilled graduates and we want to do more to work with
industry and business to meet their workforce requirements.
“The new team will be focused on quality assurance, opening up access to tertiary education particularly in areas not
currently well serviced for tertiary education study options, and increasing the number of out-of-region students and
international students studying in our Capital City,” says Chris Gosling.
“I am really excited to welcome these new staff to WelTec and Whitireia.”
The Directors are:
Dr Leanne Ivil – Director Strategy, Performance & Improvement

Mark Johnston – Director Business Development
Dr Julia Hennessy – Director Teaching & Learning at WelTec
James Smith – Director Finance & Operations at WelTec
Lawrence Arps – Director Teaching & Learning at Whitireia
