Te Rūnanga Nui o Nga Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa congratulates Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Wānanga Whare Tapere o
Tākitimu in Hastings, who has just been notified they have been successful in their application for composite status
(secondary school provision).
“The whanau of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Wānanga Whare Tapere o Tākitimu has been operating successfully since 1996
providing a unique Māori language education that embraces the Te Aho Matua philosophy and with a special focus on Māori
Performing Arts,” says Tumuaki Cathy Dewes.
“The kaumātua and kuia of this whānau planted the seed for a seamless Māori language education opportunity over twenty
years ago. It is exciting that their dream for Māori language education from kōhanga reo to wharekura and beyond is
being realised.”
“We are excited for this kura and their whānau. They have worked hard to provide excellent education for children in
Heretaunga often with limited resources but regardless they have always maintained their commitment and enthusiasm. We
look forward to welcoming another Māori language Te Aho Matua focused Wharekura that will be providing unique
opportunities for our rangatahi,” says Ms Dewes.
