University of Canterbury Earns AACSB International Accreditation
TAMPA, Fla, USA (18 August 2014)—AACSB International announced today that theUniversity of Canterbury has earned accreditation for its School of Business and Economics. Founded in 1916, AACSB International (AACSB) is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that
offer undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees in business and accounting.
"AACSB congratulates the University of Canterbury (UC), PVC Sonia Mazey and Dean Ross James on earning accreditation,
and we welcome them into the family of AACSB-accredited business schools," said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president
and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. "AACSB Accreditation represents the highest achievement for an
educational institution that awards business degrees. The PVC, Dean, and the faculty, directors, and staff of UC are to
be commended for their role in earning accreditation."
AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than five percent
of the world's business programs. Today, there are 716 business schools in 48 countries and territories that maintain
AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 181 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their
accounting programs.
Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, evaluation, and improvement, and can take multiple years to complete. During
these years, the school develops and implements a plan to meet AACSB’s Accreditation Standards, which require a high quality teaching environment, innovative programming, and active engagement with industry. All
accredited schools must go through a peer review process every five years in order to retain their accreditation.

accreditation, UC has not only met specific standards of excellence, but has also made a commitment to ongoing

AACSB International also announced that ESPAE-Graduate School of Management(Ecuador), Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (India), National Central University(Chinese Taipei) and Newcastle University (United Kingdom) have earned accreditation in business, and Northumbria University (United Kingdom) has earned accreditation in accounting.
