Evidence shows that parents and whānau can have a huge impact on children’s learning. To support schools and ECEs in
their efforts to build strong learning-focused partnerships with parents and whanau, Learning Auckland presents
Communicating Learning: Parent Engagement Forum.

Who the forum is for
Learning Auckland says the forum is aimed at principals, senior leaders, teachers and board members from Auckland early
learning, primary, intermediate and secondary schools.
The theme of the forum is enhancing engagement among whanau, teachers and learners through reporting. Learning Auckland
is looking forward to hearing from a range of stakeholders on their ideas, practices and models for improving engagement
and relations between ECEs/schools, teachers and whanau.
Speakers include:
• Professor Stuart McNaughton, Director, Woolf Fisher Research Centre, University of Auckland
• Joy Eaton, Deputy Director, Starpath Project, University of Auckland
• Cherie Taylor-Patel, Principal, Flanshaw Road School
• Jean Rockel, Senior Lecturer in ECE, University of Auckland

Attendees will gain proven, research-based approaches for engaging parents and whānau with children’s learning,
practical tips for implementing these approaches; and meet other practitioners who are active and passionate about this
important area of education.
Learning Auckland is a Collective Impact initiative, which harnesses the actions of individuals to create tangible,
long-term and significant social change. Collective Impact is a relatively new change theory in New Zealand, so
attendees can learn more about it at the event.
