Former council candidate pursues new community role
Former Wellington City Council candidate, Malcolm Aitken, has embarked on a new venture that may be more similar to council activities and supporting the community than it first appears.
Mr Aitken and his wife have purchased Gymbaroo Wellington, a pre-school neurodevelopment programme based at the Wests Roosters rugby club rooms in Northland.
He says helping children develop the skills they require for a lifetime of learning leads to higher achieving, happier children which contributes to more successful, safer communities. “My campaign focussed on a brighter future for everyone and, like Gymbaroo, this is ultimately about better communities, now and in the future.” Mr Aitken said.
“We sent our own children to Gymbaroo because it is a unique programme for supporting babies and pre-schoolers’ neurodevelopment that is based on 30 years of solid research and evidence.”
Classes focus on sensory stimulation and developing fine and gross motors skills to enhance children’s natural neurological development. The programme provides parents and caregivers the chance to learn about how to support their child’s development while participating in lots of fun activities including climbing, tumbling, singing, dancing and games.”
