Argosy CEO inspires new leaders over breakfast
Peter Mence, CEO of Argosy Property Trust shared the challenges and learnings of his career spanning over 30 years in
the property industry in front of an audience consisting of AUT students, alumni and staff members at the Breakfast Club
event yesterday morning.
During his inspirational speech, Peter emphasized the importance of the team in order to stay ahead of competition and
thus, engaging people to work as a high performance team is one of the key challenges, as well as balancing the
requirements of the job with personal health and family life.
In order to form high performance teams, empathy and very good listening skills are needed. Peter Mence went on to
explain that understanding your strengths and weaknesses, while focusing on the strength of yourself and your team is a
prerequisite to success. Diverse team members balancing each others’ weaknesses and social skills when interacting
within a team are also important. Determination, a good sense of humor, not taking yourself too seriously, seeing the
opportunity within change and how it affects others are additional aspects of a successful career.
The CEO of the Argosy Property Trust concluded by offering the advice to know your limits but believe in yourself, push
yourself to gain new experiences and to grow. Peter also emphasised ethical behavior, treating people fairly and to ask
yourself about your personal carbon footprint.
The next Breakfast Club event will be held on May 15th 2013 at the AUT University. Andrew Knight, the CEO of New Zealand
Oil and Gas will be speaking.
