Wellington Institute of Technology to Sign Agreement bringing Chinese students to study in New Zealand
PRESS RELEASE
12 April 2013
On Thursday, 11 April 2013 Dr Linda Sissons, Chief Executive of the Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) signed a new agreement with Guangxi Polytechnic of Construction (GPC) in Beijing, China which will see the number of Chinese students studying engineering or construction at WelTec increase significantly from mid-2013.
“This agreement forms the basis of a model developed with GPC which will enable Chinese students to study for two years at GPC then spend one year in Wellington studying at WelTec to complete either a New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil) or Diploma in Creative Technologies,” says Dr Sissons.
The visit to Beijing coincides with the Prime Minister’s visit to China. Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister, Steven Joyce is also accompanying the Prime Minister to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China and the 5th anniversary of the China New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
“GPC is a highly respected and specialised construction school in China offering three-year diplomas in engineering, construction, infrastructure and IT subjects. With more than 2,500 graduates each year who are in high demand by local industries, we are eager to begin this partnership in 2013,” says Dr Sissons.
