Sisters both ranked Top in New Zealand in Cambridge International Exams Awards
5 February 2013, Auckland. Hot on the heels of initial exam result success for the ACG group of schools last week, the Awards for the Cambridge
International Examination have been announced today.
Larne Edmeades, Principal of ACG Parnell College is a very proud man. Four of his students were told this morning that
they attained Top in the World awards in the Cambridge International Exams. This alongside six others who were ranked
Top in New Zealand – two of them sisters!
And he's not the only one in the ACG Group with something to shout about. ACG Strathallan had nine students ranked Top
in New Zealand and ACG Senior College had one student ranked Top in the World and four Top in New Zealand. Another
outstanding year for the ACG schools with a total of 31 awards (including High Achievement awards) across the Group.
Mr Edmeades says “We are thrilled with the results this morning, especially since our students achieved 11 awards and
this from a school of only 630 College students. The unity of commitment amongst staff and students is inspiring.
Success at the highest level for these truly outstanding scholars is very special for each of them and their families.
That depth of ability combined with a wholehearted effort has distinguished this group as not only top students and
learners but as young people who have the potential to lead."
Wendy Templer’s excitement for her daughters’ achievements is understandable with both her daughters gaining Top in New
Zealand grades. Francesca got Top in New Zealand in IGCSE History and Gabriella got Top in New Zealand in AS Level
Economics. "I'm just so happy for them both." says Wendy, "They really deserve a result like this after all their hard
work. Fran’s teacher challenged her to get one of these top marks, so she is really pleased to have been able to
oblige!"
Shining out from ACG Strathallan is Eric Jou, now in his final year of high school. Eric is being awarded one of the
most prestigious awards of the Cambridge exams, Best Across Three Cambridge International A Levels. What is even more extraordinary is that these three subjects were A Level subjects and he was only a Year 12 student
last year, so effectively he was sitting a year above his age/level.
Robin Kirkham, ACG Strathallan principal says, “Eric is such an outstanding student who has made his teachers so proud.
To gain this level of success at his age in three subjects (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) that require such academic
rigour is truly remarkable.”
“ACG Strathallan’s A level successes in Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Painting and Photography demonstrate
what dedicated students and teachers can achieve. I am thrilled to bits about this performance and will be watching for
the success of these students in the future,” says Mr Kirkham.
This outstanding streak of achievement tops off a string of very successful years for ACG with 32 awards in 2010 and 29
in 2011. Chief Operating Officer Clarence van der Wel says "We are delighted and exceptionally proud of all our teachers
and students and see it as confirmation that the formula we founded for a new type of education 18 years ago is well and
truly working."
The Cambridge International Examination award ceremony will be held 21 February.
