Release for 29th November 2012
Old Money To Fund Kiwi Kids
For the past two years Lions Clubs New Zealand have collected 14 tonnes of old money and foreign currency for youth campaign Heads Up for Kids. Numerous students from schools across the country have benefited from the campaign and now Lions are inviting the public to submit applications for funding.
The Heads Up for Kids funding applications are available to both individuals and groups aged 18 years or younger. The campaign’s mission statement announces that funding is there to provide a helping hand for young people to engage in an experience or activity that will enable them to live their dream, establish life-goals and reach their full potential within their chosen field.
“Dozens of students have received funding to attend education programmes, such as the Hillary Step Programme at the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre, Outward Bound and Spirit of Adventure, ““ says Simon Hayes, Heads Up for Kids chairman and member of Queenstown Lions Club.
“However, funding is not just available for outdoor activities, but any course that provides positive value to the lives of young New Zealanders, and we strongly encourage applications for education programmes involved in arts and music to sports and academia also, ”
“The magic of this project is taking out –of –date cash and turning it into opportunities for our young people,” says Mr Hayes.
