A Photographer's Dream: Police Dogs Take Centre Stage
Unitec photography student, Anita Purdie, undertook a project photographing drug detection and police dogs to increase
the awareness of what a day in the life of a police dog is like.
"I decided to photograph police dogs, as I'm interested in how we view the environment and relate to animals," says
Anita.
Anita believes that police dogs are interesting, as they serve as workers, co-workers and loyal partners to their
handlers. The way police dog handlers treat their dogs, and the way the dogs respond to the handlers on duty creates a
unique relationship.
"Police dogs are important to society and we owe them for their diligent work and vital roles they play within our
communities."
Anita's photography work includes snapshots of police dogs in action, whether on a drug detection drill or training on
the police grounds.
Anita is still in the process of completing this assignment, and she graduates from Unitec at the end of the year.
Photography is just one of the many elements to be presented at the Gradfest this year, challenging the creativity and
