Auditions: 18 November, 2012
In recognition of one of New Zealand’s greatest choreographers, teachers and dancers– Russell Kerr – East Auckland Performing Arts is giving one lucky young dancer the chance of a lifetime. EAPA is offering a promising young ballet dancer the
opportunity to participate in a year’s free full-time training towards their 2-year Diploma in Dance and Theatre Arts
(Level 5).
“When I was a young girl, Russell Kerr gave me the chance of a lifetime” says Director Elizabeth Harvey. “I was a
member of his training course here in Auckland and later a member of his dance company – so I was taught by the very
best”. Ms Harvey went on to have a 25 year career as an international dancer in both ballet companies and production
shows, performing in Paris, London, Dublin, Iran, Las Vegas and Reno. “Now we are training dancers to a similar high
level” she says.
Previous EAPA graduates include: Pamela Sidhu who is in her third year of training at the New Zealand School of Dance;
Mio Shimazu who is dancing in Europe; Aurelian Child de Brocas who is studying at Alegria in Sydney; and Sun Lou who is
attending the National Theatre Ballet School in Melbourne.
The faculty of teachers at East Auckland Performing Arts includes Carl Myers a former Senior Principal Dancer in
London’s Royal Ballet Company who danced with Fonteyn and Nureyev. The course includes training in contemporary dance,
jazz, tap and musical theatre as well as classical ballet.
