Increased demand for IT accreditation leads to launch of new training courses
Half of Australian and New Zealand enterprises use a framework to manage IT services
Wellington, New Zealand (6 September 2012) – To cater to the increasing demand for IT accreditation and training, leading global IT organisation ISACA is
launching a range of new training courses in association with the worldwide examination institute, APMG-International.
Four new COBIT 5 training courses will be launched over the next five months as the result of a new partnership between ISACA and APMG-International. APMG has been appointed as ISACA’s official training accreditation partner for COBIT 5, ISACA’s framework for
governance and management of enterprise IT. The agreement is in place for a period of three years.
Launched in April 2012, COBIT 5 helps enterprises maximise the value of their information – the currency of the 21st century. COBIT 5 publications have
been downloaded more than 70,000 times in the four months since its release.
Under the agreement, ISACA and APMG will develop the training courses and exams that will lead to the achievement of
individual course certificates. APMG will also assess and accredit trainers and manage the examination process for the
courses.
The announcement follows a recent ISACA survey, which found that half of all Australian and New Zealand enterprises use
a framework or standard for governance and management of enterprise IT assets and services[i].
Additionally, ISACA experienced a 435% growth in the previous COBIT 4.1 Foundation Exams over five years (from 2006 to
2011) with more than 20,000 registrations for this exam overall.

quality and a seamless process for conducting courses and exams on a global scale,” said Thomas Borton, CISA, CISM,
CRISC, CISSP, chair of ISACA’s Education and Dissemination Committee. “This is an exciting and globally anticipated
development of COBIT training.”
Richard Pharro, CEO of APMG, said, “This is a very significant announcement for APMG. Naturally we are delighted that
ISACA has appointed us as its accreditation partner. We are very experienced at rolling out accreditation schemes
globally. We aim to encourage candidates to engage with COBIT 5, so their organisations will in turn benefit from better
governance and management of enterprise IT.”
The COBIT 5 courses and expected availability dates include:
• Foundation Level Training—November 2012
• Process Level Training—December 2012
• Implementation Level Training—January 2013
• Assessment Level Training—January 2013
ISACA’s own subject matter experts will be collaborating with APMG to create course syllabi and exam items. ISACA will
also continue to support COBIT 4.1.
To meet demand, current COBIT 4.1 licensed trainers and training companies can apply for a syllabus to deliver the COBIT
5 Foundation course until the formal course and accreditation requirements are completed. After that time, license
holders will be required to be accredited by APMG to continue Foundation Level training.
COBIT 5 and IT frameworks will be discussed at the upcoming Oceania CACS2012 conference, which focuses on ‘embracing uncertainty and delivering value in turbulent times’. Held in Wellington from 10-12 September 2012, highly respected industry experts from New Zealand, Australia and
around the world will present their latest thinking, research and practical experience in topical presentations and
workshops.
