CPIT new centre for Cambridge English Language Exams
CPIT is excited to announce that the institute has been selected as the new Cambridge English Examination Centre for
Christchurch, with the aim of becoming a hub for Cambridge enrolments as Canterbury enters into full rebuild mode.
“Cambridge sees huge potential in CPIT providing English skills to the many workers who will be employed in the
rebuilding, as well as supporting the other professionals who will be required in the coming years. We see CPIT as the
ideal partner as the reconstruction of Christchurch moves up a gear,” Allen Blewitt, Executive Director of Australia and
New Zealand University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations said.
CPIT stood out from a strong pool of applicants, demonstrating a high level of experience and an excellent reputation in
English language education.
“Cambridge was impressed by the ideas and depth of skills available from the CPIT team and the qualifications and
experience of their core English language specialists. They are a well-regarded tertiary institution which has a great
central location and strong links to feeder educational institutions,” Blewitt said.
The institute was identified as being able to provide an efficient and secure examination process as well as having
potential to expand growth in Cambridge enrolments in 2012, including in non-traditional areas such as the technical and
trades sector.
“In 2012 we would hope to see an expansion in Cambridge English candidature in the South Island, not only in the
traditional core examinations but also in other examinations which are suitable for the technical, trades and vocational
sector,” Blewitt said.
CPIT is thrilled to be able to provide for Cambridge English language students and contribute to the growth of
international students coming to New Zealand to learn English and sit these exams.
“We are very happy to be the preferred partner for Cambridge examinations. This new offering will be very important in
attracting new international students to Canterbury to contribute during our recovery phase and in the long term,” said
Beth Knowles, Director of International at CPIT.
The announcement comes as a positive step forward for Cambridge English language students in Christchurch who have had
to travel as far as Queenstown to sit exams after the February earthquake closed the Kaplan International College in the
central city.
