Early Childhood Publisher Takes National Standards Initiative
The New Zealand-based international educational publisher, Wendy Pye Publishing, publishers of Sunshine Books, is delivering to schools throughout New Zealand a straightforward guide to support teachers with National Standards assessments.
The company is taking this action because teachers who use their Sunshine reading program have expressed confusion regarding testing and reporting policy. They have asked Wendy Pye Publishing for measurement tools to help them fairly assess students to meet the new National Standards for Years 1 to 8.
The guide includes a booklet for the end of Year 1 (more to follow in 2011) with detailed descriptions of teaching to the standards using six Sunshine stories in print and digital formats. There are also interactive activities on CD-ROM to assess learning.
“ For me, early childhood learning is a passion and for almost 30 years I have been dedicated to developing tools that will help children learn to read effectively,” said Wendy Pye, “and this is a very important time for education in New Zealand with the National Standards debate so making sure that children are treated fairly is paramount to me.”
Wendy Pye Publishing publishes early learning material in literacy and maths.
The company is regarded worldwide for its multimedia resources and creative new ways for students to learn to read and to study maths.
