Global 3D Industry Experience at Lifeway College; Introducing 3D Animation Tutor Jason Marlow
To be truly successful in the media industry, you need good mentors and experienced teachers to give you a helping hand
to make your mark.
Lifeway College is proud to add Jason Marlow to their list of industry experienced guest lecturers, teaching as part of
their Advanced Diploma in 3D Animation programme.
Jason is a Motion Designer with over 10 years of experience in the film and TV industry where he specializes in 3D
lighting, rendering and animation.
After graduating from film school in 1999, his short film ‘I’ve dreamed of you so much’ played at the Cannes Film
Festival. Since then, he worked his way through the camera department as a 2nd AC, Focus Puller and finally as a Camera
Operator and DOP.
Throughout his many years in the industry, Jason has worked on various Feature and TV projects such as Honey, The Limb
Salemen, Nemisis, Degrassi Junior High, Mutant X and many more. During this time he developed a deep understanding of
film making and story telling, which he utilises in his primary turf of Motion Design today.
Jason is now busy passing his industry knowledge and skills on to new up-and-comers as a guest lecturer for Lifeway
College’s Diploma in Advanced 3D Animation Programme.
“I love being in a creative environment and the prospect of teaching the artistic, energetic and enthusiastic students
at Lifeway was just too good to pass up. There is nothing more rewarding than helping to transform students who thought
they could never create anything meaningful into confident professionals.
I like the satisfaction when I get a ‘breakthrough’ of some sort; maybe a pupil has struggled to grasp a technique or
concept, and after several attempts, presenting it in different ways, finally the light switch clicks and they go
"ahhhhh!" I think that can only happen once the student’s realise that they are more than just ‘button pushers’. I try
to provide them with some insight into the underlying concepts of lighting, texturing and compositing while showing them
how to execute the concepts within programs like Maya and the Adobe Suite. If you have everyone engaging with the
material it becomes theirs and they internalise it.” - Jason Marlow.
With Lifeway College’s focus on obtaining lecturers such as Jason that have screen credits and global experience,
students are getting not only the skills they need but they are also learning how to make it in a competitive industry
that values commitment, team work and creativity.
