TIASA Supports Acknowledgement Of Staff In Uni's
The Tertiary Institutes Allied Staff Association (TIASA) congratulates AUS and university Vice Chancellors for
acknowledging the contribution that general (allied) staff make to New Zealand’s universities.
TIASA represents allied (general) staff throughout the tertiary sector and have 25% of its membership in universities –
primarily AUT, but also Massey and U of A.
“It is great that some acknowledgement is being given to the unique contribution of allied (general) staff to all parts
of university life, as these are not always understood and valued by their academic colleagues and management,” said
TIASA Chief Executive, Peter Joseph. “Universities need to provide better and higher remuneration; improved conditions
and; remedy the workload issues that exist,” he said.
“The current tri-partite approach to university salaries, discriminates against allied/general staff and has widened the
gap considerably between academic and allied/general staff salaries in recent years,” said Joseph. “We look forward to
celebrating when all universities genuinely value the contribution of allied/general staff and acknowledge that while it
may be different from that of academic staff, it is at least equal to their contribution”, he said.
