WelTec host Trade and Technology Expo and WorldSkills National Finals
Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) is the place to be from 18 – 20 September as WelTec host Wellington’s annual
Trade and Technology Expo in conjunction with the WorldSkills NZ National Finals. The WelTec Petone campus is expected
to be a hub of activity over the three day period with the two events running - along with a special Secondary Schools
open day on Friday 19 September.
In its second year, the Trade and Technology Expo will see industry exhibitors, training organisations and career advice
all in the one place, at the one time. With over 40 exhibitors, the Expo is an opportunity to visit exciting interactive
displays, see live demonstrations, chat to training organisations and to find out more about exciting careers in the
trade and technology industries.
In addition to the expo, the WorldSkills National Finals is an event of national significance. The biennial National
Finals bring together all the regional winners, in a range of trade and technology skill categories, to compete for the
national title – and a place on the team to head to Calgary (Canada) in 2009 for the WorldSkills International
competition.
“The Expo provides a fantastic occasion for people to gain first hand experience about a wide range of trades and
technology industries. Visitors will be able to see New Zealand’s best young tradespeople compete in the WorldSkills NZ
National Finals. This event occurs only every two years and is unlikely to be back in Wellington for another six years”
says Regional Trade and Technology Training Centre Manager, Tony Love.
Tony is thrilled to be able to open WelTec’s doors to those interested in trade and technology careers. “We envisage
that this event will provide the community with a greater awareness of what trade and technology careers are available
to them, it also showcases some of the fantastic equipment and facilities that WelTec has including new virtual training
equipment, which is unique to New Zealand.”
The WorldSkills National Finals will be held on 18 – 20 September, with the Trade and Technology Expo running on 19 -20
September, both at WelTec’s Petone Campus .
