Lecturers show how it’s done at hairdressing awards
Whanganui UCOL lecturers have scooped the overall prize as part of a five-award haul from the New Zealand Association of Regional Hairdressing Regional Awards.
The awards were held in Wanganui last weekend.
Whanganui UCOL Hairdressing Lecturer, Robyn Collins, won the Overall Champion prize, Top Stylist award, and first place in the Urban Day category. Jacqui Broughton, UCOL Certificate in Hairdressing (Pre-Apprenticeship) Lecturer, won second place in the Urban Night - Senior category, and fourth place in the Oceanic Cut category.
UCOL Palmerston North Certificate in Hairdressing (Pre-Apprenticeship) Lecturer, Gillian Gosper also won the Consumer Colour award, taking UCOL’s total to six awards.
After the awards, Robyn said the UCOL wins come down to a desire for passion and technical excellence. “I believe that if you always strive for precision and innovation in your work, you will always push yourself to new achievements. This is important in the industry, and this is what we pass on to our students at UCOL.”
Gillian said the UCOL entries looked fantastic. “It was wonderful to win the awards. It shows that our lecturers are out there doing it, as well as teaching it. We keep up with the play in the industry, which means we can teach with an advantage in the classroom.
The awards, held at the Wanganui Race Course Eulogy Lounge on Saturday 16 August were judged by some of New Zealand’s highest profile hairdressers, and included entries from many regions, with the quality of the competing styles described by judges as of a very high standard.
